Molina stuns Perez

Late replacement Carlos Molina stunned contender Danny Perez by winning a one-sided unanimous decision in a 10-round junior middleweight bout on Friday in Miami.

Molina, who took the fight on six days notice after Carlos Quintana pulled out, simply outworked his more-experienced and favored opponent to win easily on all three cards -- 118-110, 119-109 and 119-109.

The largely unknown Molina (17-4-1, 5 knockouts) is on a roll. He has won nine consecutive fights since losing a majority decision to unbeaten junior welterweight contender Mike Alvarado in February 2007.

Perez (34-6, 17 KOs) had won three consecutive fights since returning from a nearly three-year hiatus from the sport, including an impressive decision over Julio Cesar Garcia in September.

However, on Friday, he didn’t seem to have the fire of previous fights, which might’ve been the result of his disappointment over Quintana pulling out.

Perez is ranked No. 14 by the WBO and No. 15 by the IBF.
