Godfrey dominates Hawk on FNF

Matt Godfrey easily outpointed Shawn Hawk in a 10-round cruiserweight fight in Philadelphia on Friday Night Fights.

The slick-boxing Godfrey, rated No. 10 by THE RING, thoroughly dominated his overmatched opponent – 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93, according to the judges – but probably didn’t win any fans with his effective, but less-than-entertaining performance.

Godfrey (19-1, 10 knockouts) is rated in the Top 10 by two of the four major sanctioning bodies. Thus, the Providence, R.I., product remains a contender.

Hawk (18-1-1, 16 KOs) had never faced a world-class opponent until Friday. He’s from Sioux Falls, S.D.

On the undercard, Chris Henry bounced back from a split-decision loss to Yusaf Mack in February and a 2-2 record in his last four fights by stopping Shaun George in the sixth round of a scheduled 10-round light heavyweight bout.

George (18-3-2, 9 KOs) repeatedly hammered Henry (24-2, 19 KOs) in the first round with his right, a punch to which Henry is strangely vulnerable. However, Henry survived and took charge of the fight.

Henry put George down twice in the sixth, after which referee Steve Smoger stopped the fight.
