The 31-year-old native of Georgetown, Guyana, who faces Noe Bolanos on Aug. 14 on ESPN2, won the WBA 140-pound title when he stopped Diosbelys Hurtado in two rounds in 2002 and successfully defended it three times. He lost the title to Carlos Maussa when he was stopped in seven rounds in 2005. He has since beaten Stevie Johnston and Juan Lazcano but was knocked out by Junior Witter in 2007 for the WBC version of the title. Harris has fought only once in the last two years, stopping Octavio Narvaez in six rounds in November. “I've been in this game a long time, but I'm not done reaching my boxing goals yet,” Harris said in a Golden Boy news release. “People know what I can do when I'm on and I feel better physically and mentally than I ever have. Expect fireworks from me each time I'm in the ring from now on." Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy, likes what he sees in Harris. "Vivian Harris has always been a great fighter to watch, simply because of the excitement he brings to the ring," De La Hoya said in the release. "He is without a doubt one of the premier junior welterweights in the world and now it's time to remind the boxing world of that fact. We will do our job to put Vivian in big fights that will have the fight fans cheering." |
