The rematch between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto is being targeted for June 30.
Hearing on Campbell's appeal set
|
Campbell appeared to have been cut above his left eye by a head butt in the third round, after which the fight was stopped. He assumed the result would be a no-decision because the butt occurred within four rounds but referee David Mendoza ruled that a punch followed the butt and gave Bradley the victory. Replays seemed to support Campbell’s argument. Campbell complained on his stool after the third round that he saw white spots in his left eye. He later told Fightnews.com that he was told by a doctor that he had a vitreous hemorrhage, which should cause no permanent damage. Gary Shaw, Timothy Bradley’s promoter, isn’t happy about the prospect of the result being changed but says it doesn’t matter. “Everyone knows he quit,” Shaw said. “He didn’t want the cut man to close the cut. He didn’t want to fight. He was getting beat by a bigger, stronger, faster man. He just plain quit. You gotta gut it out. We’re in a sport where you have to fight. The referee said he saw a big right after the butt. You don’t overrule him. No one was as close to it as he was. “If they reverse it, the only thing they’re going to affect is Timothy Bradley’s unblemished record. The world knows he was about to knock him out.” Most observers believed that Bradley was dominating the fight. |
