W. Klitschko, Chambers in talks

Wladimir Klitschko and Eddie Chambers are in the early stages of negotiations to fight in the near future, according to Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions.

Klitschko, who holds the IBF and WBO titles, was expected to defend the IBF belt against No. 1 contender Alexander Povetkin in December. However, Povetkin’s new trainer, Teddy Atlas, reportedly wants him to fight one more time before facing the Ukrainian.

That opens the door for Chambers, the WBO’s No. 1 contender, who is coming off a sensational victory over Alexander Dimitrenko on July 4 in Germany.

Several reports indicated that Klitschko, THE RING champion, would fight No. 3 Chambers in December in Germany. However, Loeffler said no date is set. It would depend on the schedules of HBO and German television.

Klitschko manhandled Ruslan Chagaev en route to a ninth-round technical knockout in June in Germany.

Klitschko’s brother, Vitali, rated No. 1 by THE RING, will face No. 6 Chris Arreola on Sept. 26 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
