Victor Ortiz, the junior welterweight contender from Oxnard, Calif., is scheduled to take part in the open house and formal introduction of the redesigned Expo Center and the dedication of the new Soboroff Sports Field today (Oct. 17) in downtown Los Angeles.

The Expo Center is in Exposition Park, next to the Memorial Coliseum. The event, which will include an elaborate opening ceremony, is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The “Friends of the Expo Center,” led by board chair Steve Soboroff, raised $6 million to build the state-of-the-art, multipurpose playing field on an empty lot.

Other dignitaries and athletes are scheduled to attend.
