Grand Opening of De La Hoya school Thursday
|
The school was established at a temporary location in 2003 with a $1 million donation by De La Hoya with another $3.8 million donated to Green Dot Public Schools, which operates public schools in L.A. After five years of construction and $26 million state bond funds, De La Hoya will cut the ribbon to officially open his namesake school. The school, at 1114 South Lorena St. in Los Angeles, has graduated 332 students with 72 percent going on to four-year universities. It also is a California Distinguished school, ranked No. 53 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, and has been recognized by Newsweek. De La Hoya has twice delivered the commencement speech at the school. |
