Kim KOs Diaz in first round

Ji-Hoon Kim proved in a very short fight against Ameth Diaz on Friday in Laredo, Texas, that a big power punch can compensate for any deficiencies.

Kim, a reckless brawler from South Korea, was engaging in a fairly even give-and-take battle with Diaz in the first round when a straight right to the side of Diaz’s head put the Panamanian down and hurt him badly. He was able to get to his feet but was too wobbly to go on.

The knockout, 2:59 into the scheduled 12-round lightweight fight, was the 10th in a row for Kim (21-5, 18 knockouts).

Diaz (27-10, 19 KOs) was fighting for the first time in the United States. He’s now 2-3 in his last five fights and has been knocked out seven times.
