Kirkland to work with Adams, could fight in February

James Kirkland will be released from a half-way house on Jan. 14 and was given permission by a judge to travel for a period of 30 days, Golden Boy Productions CEO Richard Schaefer said.

The purpose of the travel will be to relocate from his home in Texas to Las Vegas, where he will begin training with Ken Adams. Schaefer said the unbeaten former junior middleweight contender could fight as early as next month.

“We don’t want to rush him,” Schaefer said. “We’ll see when he gets there how long it will take to get back into the ring. It could be sometime in February or maybe March.”

Kirkland was released from prison in September after 18 months behind bars for gun possession but went back to jail and then to a half-way house for violating his parole.
