Khan could fight Lamont Peterson on April 16

Lamont Peterson has been given an offer to fight Amir Khan on April 16 in Manchester, England, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said.

Peterson is coming off a draw with Victor Ortiz on the undercard of Khan’s victory over Marcos Maidana on Dec. 11 in Las Vegas. Schaefer said Ortiz might fight on that card, although an opponent hasn't been selected.

Schaefer was waiting to hear back from Peterson.

“We’ll see if he accepts it,” he said.

Khan barely survived a harrowing 10th round after Maidana hurt him badly with a right hand but went on to win a unanimous decision. Peterson rallied after being knocked down twice in the third round to earn the draw against Ortiz.

Schaefer said Maidana probably will fight next in his native Argentina and could face the loser of the Timothy Bradley-Devon Alexander fight after that. Khan could face the winner, Schaefer said.
