Escobedo to headline 'Solo Boxeo' card

Lightweight contender Vicente Escobedo will face journeyman Walter Estrada in a 10-round bout on the March 4 "Solo Boxeo" card in Indio, Calif., on Telefutura.

Escobedo (22-3, 14 knockouts) is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Robert Guerrero in November, his second loss in three fights. He was outpointed by Michael Katsidis in September 2009.

However, the former U.S. Olympian was very upbeat after his loss to Guerrero. He said he learned a great deal and is still optimistic he will win a major title.

Estrada (38-13-1, 25 KOs) is a 34-year-old southpaw from Colombia who had become a tough designated opponent for rising prospects. In his biggest fight, he was stopped by Yuriorkis Gamboa in the first round in 2009.

He is 3-0-1 in his last four fights, though, including a split-decision victory over aging Nate Campbell in his most-recent fight.

Undefeated junior featherweight prospect Randy Caballero (7-0, 4 KOs) also will take part in a six-round bout on the card. His opponent has yet to be determined.
