Holyfield-Williams fight ends in no-contest
|
The cut appeared to occur when the fighters' heads collided in the second round, although Williams (34-11-2, 19 knockouts) said it was a counter right that caused the damage. Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KOs) claimed he couldn't see because of blood in his eye as he sat on his stool between rounds and that was good enough for the ring doctor, who stopped it. The fight didn't go to the scorecards because it hadn't gone the required four rounds. Williams, a squat Bahamian, seemed to get the better of the 48-year-old former heavyweight champion. He landed a number of effective overhand punches to the head and some to the body. The cut puts Holyfield's scheduled bout against Brian Nielsen on March 5 in jeopardy. |
