Lightweight contender John Molina is off the Chris Arreola-Joey Abell card Friday in Temecula, Calif.

Tom Brown, matchmaker at Goossen Tutor, said it was decided that Molina would pursue a 10- or 12-round main event on television (possibly on ESPN2) rather than take part in an eight-round tune-up on an undercard.

The plan is to maneuver Molina to a title shot sometime this year. The Covina, Calif., resident is ranked No. 2 by the WBO, behind titleholder Juan Manuel Marquez and No. 1 Robert Guerrero.

Molina is coming off a sensational 11th-round knockout of Henry Lundy in a fight Molina was losing.

He was scheduled to face Reymundo Beltran in November but had to pull out of the fight because he was ill.

Meanwhile, officials at Goosen Tutor are excited about their Feb. 11 show on ShoBox from Atlantic City, N.J. Unbeaten junior featherweight prospect Rico Ramos faces a test in tough veteran Alejandro Valdez in the main event. A new Goossen Tutor signee, unbeaten super middleweight Cornelius White, faces capable Donovan George in another TV fight.

Heavyweight Eddie Chambers, coming off his knockout loss to Wladimir Klitschko last March, takes on Derric Rossy in an off-television title eliminator. Chambers stopped Rossy in seven rounds in 2007.
