April 9 pay-per-view card set
|
The April 9 pay-per-view card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas has come together. Marcos Maidana will fight Erik Morales for the vacant WBA junior welterweight title, according to numerous reports. And Robert Guerrero will fight Michael Katsidis in a lightweight bout. Winky Wright faces Matthew Macklin in another high-profile fight on the card. Morales (51-6, 35 knockotus) was in negotiations to fight Juan Manuel Marquez but quickly turned to Maidana (29-2, 27 KOs) when talks broke off. Morales is 2-0 in his comeback from a 2½-year hiatus. Maidana is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Amir Khan in December. Guerrero (28-1-1, 18 KOs) and Katsidis (27-3, 22 KOs) were scheduled to fight last year but Guerrero pulled out to be with his wife, Casey, who was battling leukemia. Guerrero is coming off a unanimous-decision victory over Vicent Escobedo in November. Katsidis was stopped by Marquez in nine rounds in his last fight, also in November. Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs) hasn’t fought since he lost a one-sided decision to Paul Williams last April. Macklin (28-2, 19 KOs) is the European middleweight titleholder. |
