Montiel, Donaire make weight
Both Fernando Montiel and Nonito Donaire weighed in at the division limit, 118 pounds, for their bantamweight title bout on Friday. The HBO-televised bout takes place on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Welterweights Mike Jones and Jesus Soto-Karass also made weight for thier rematch, which will also be televised by HBO, on the Montiel-Donaire undercard. Jones, who won the first bout by a controversial decision last November, weighed in at the division limit of 147 pounds. Soto-Karass weighed in at 146 pounds for the scheduled 10-round bout.
The scheduled 12-round title bout between Montiel, who holds the WBO and WBC belts, and Donaire takes place at the Mandalay Bay Event Center. Montiel is THE RING's No. 1-rated bantamweight. Donaire is rated No. 5 by the magazine. Both fighters are in THE RING's Pound-for-Pound rankins (Donaire is No. 5; Montiel is No. 7).
