Antonio DeMarco outpointed Reyes Sanchez in a spirited 12-round lightweight title eliminator Saturday in Grand Island, Neb., the first half of Showtime's split-site doubleheader with the Miguel Acosta-Brandon Rios fight.

DeMarco (25-2-1, 18 knockouts) landed more and sharper punches to win on all three cards, 116-112, 117-111 and 115-113.

The Tijuana fighter, the WBC's No. 1 contender going into the fight, is now the mandatory challenger for Humberto Soto's title. However, DeMarco said he will not fight Soto because they are cousins. Soto has two fights scheduled, including a rematch with Urbano Antillon.on the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley card on May 7.

Sanchez (20-4-1, 11 KOs), ranked No. 2 going into the fight, didn't match DeMarco in terms of skills but fought a spirited fight even though he had to contend with a cut above his left eye almost the entire fight.
