Linares to replace Wright on Morales-Maidana?
|
Junior lightweight contender Jorge Linares could take Winky Wright's place on the undercard of the Erik Morales-Marcos Maidana pay-per-view event on April 9, sources close to the promotion have informed RingTV.com. Wright was recently forced to withdraw from his middleweight bout against Matthew Macklin after suffering a training injury. Wright-Macklin was the co-featured bout to Morales-Maidana, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Linares (30-1, 19 knockouts) is a former featherweight and junior lightweight titleholder who has won three consecutive bouts since suffering a shocking first-round stoppage loss to Juan Carlos Salgado in October of 2009. The talented 25-year-old Japan-based Venezuelan boxer stopped former lightweight titleholder Jesus Chavez after four rounds in Tokyo last October. Golden Boy Promotions, promoter of Morales-Maidana, is looking for a quality fighter for Linares to face. Streaking contender Jason Litzau is reportedly high on the list of possible opponents. |
