Injury forces Avalos to withdraw from FNF card

altJunior featherweight prospect Chris Avalos was forced to withdraw from his ESPN2-televised fight with Yan Barthelemy on Friday due to a hand injury suffered during training last week.

Hard-hitting junior featherweight prospect Chris Avalos will not be on this week's edition of Friday Night Fights from Hollywood, Fla., due to a severe hand injury suffered while sparring late last week, the prospect's manager Mike Criscio informed RingTV.com.

Avalos (18-1, 15 knockouts), who was schedueled to face Yan Barthelemy in a 10-round bout, may have torn some ligaments in his right hand.

Barthelemy (11-2, 4 KOs) is a 2004 Olympic gold medalist from Cuba. The Miami-based southpaw would have been the toughest opponent Avalos has faced since the 21-year-old Southern Californian dropped a split decision to fellow prospect Christopher Martin last August.
