Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions says his company has a valid contract with Beibut Shumenov, who filed a lawsuit to severe his ties with the promotional firm.

The light heavyweight titleholder from Kazakhstan  alleges that Goossen Tutor violated provisions in the contract in several ways. The lawsuit alleges breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and deceptive trade practices.

“We’re never shocked by anything that happens in this business,” said Goossen, referring to the lawsuit. “We have a valid and binding agreement (with Shumenov) and will go out there and defend ourselves.”

Goossen Tutor signed Shumenov after he won a 175-pound title in only his 10th fight, a victory over Gabriel Campillo in January of last year. They worked together on two fights, victories over Viacheslav Uzelkov (unanimous decision) in July and William Joppy (sixth-round KO) in January.

Goossen said he had plans to take Shumenov to the next level, including a possible fight against super middleweight contender Librado Andrade for April.

“We’ve done a very good job with him,” he said. “We offered him fights recently that would’ve catapulted him to the next level. But so be it. Whatever his reasons are, we’re just going to move forward and protect our rights.”

The Las Vegas resident is now promoted by the company he and his brother Chingis owns, KZ Event Productions.
