Paez Jr. beats Castillo, avenges father's loss
Jorge Paez Jr., the son of former featherweight champ Jorge Paez, scored a 10-round decision over former lightweight champ Jose Luis Castillo on Friday. Castillo KO'd Paez Sr. in 1999.
Jorge Paez Jr. settled a 12-year-old family grudge Friday in Mexicali, Mexico, pounding out a 10-round unanimous decision over 39-year-old Jose Luis Castillo.
Castillo (62-11, 53 knockouts) knocked out Paez's father, Jorge Paez Sr., in five rounds in 1999, an outcome that motivated the second-generation fighter.
"I'm very happy because of what Castillo did to my father," said the 24-year-old Paez Jr. (27-3, 20 KOs). "Jose Luis Castillo is a strong fighter, with lots of experience, but we put together a good strategy and it worked. I wanted to knock him out, but he wouldn't go."
