Maldonado replaces injured Castillo as Morel's opponent
Luis Maldonado replaces the injured Martin Castillo as Eric Morel's opponent on Friday's Telefutura card from Indio, Calif.
Martin Castillo injured his foot during training Tuesday and pulled out of Friday’s rematch with Eric Morel in Indio, Calif., on Telefutura.
Castillo will be replaced in the 10-round bantamweight fight by veteran Luis Maldonado, who has title fights with Vic Darchinyan, Nonito Donaire and Fernando Montiel.
Morel (43-2, 21 knockouts) has won eight consecutive fights since the former flyweight titleholder from Puerto Rico lost a junior bantamweight title shot against Castillo in 2005.
Maldonado (35-5-1, 26 KOs) has fought only twice in more than three years and has lost his last three fights, to Donaire, Montiel and Rodrigo Guerrero. The Guerrero fight was the Mexican’s most recent.
Randy Caballero (8-0, 4 KOs) of Coachella, Calif., faces Felix Perez (7-2, 3 KOs) of Puerto Rico in a junior featherweight co-feature.
The card is Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Doors open at 6 p.m. PT. Tickets are available by calling (800) 827-2946. The first fight is at 7.
The Telefutura broadcast begins at 11:30 PT / ET (10:30 CT).
