Former heavyweight titleholder Sergei Liakhovich has pulled out of his scheduled April 9 fight against Johnnie White after suffering a minor rib injury during training, his promoter announced Friday.

Liakhovich (25-3, 16 knockouts) and White (22-4, 18 KOs) were part of the undercard of a show at the Prudential Center Arenain Newark, N.J., headlined by Tomasz Adamek and Kevin McBride.

"Unfortunately, Sergei reported that he suffered a rib injury in training yesterday, and his doctor recommended that he wait until at least mid-April before he engages in any contact," said Kathy Duva of Main Events. "We had been looking forward to presenting Sergei for the first time in Newark and we are so sorry that his first appearance with Main Events will have to wait. But what is most important is that Sergei recover fully from his injury.
