Finnish heavyweight propsect Robert Helenius brutally knocked out former titleholder Samuel Peter in the ninth round of their schedueld 12-round main event in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, on Saturday.

Helenius (15-0, 10 knokcouts) dropped Peter with a short hook midway through the ninth round. The former beltholder struggled to his feet only to walk into a hard right hand-left hook combination that knocked him flat on his back where he was counted out and where he remained, unconscious, for a few minutes.

Peter (34-5, 27 KOs) had previously only been stopped by the Klitschko brothers -- Vitali halted him after eight rounds in 2008 and Wladimir knocked him out in the 10th round of their rematch last September, which was the Las Vegas-based Nigerian's last fight.

Peter is the second former titleholder that Helenius has stopped in his brief but impressive pro career. The 6-foot-6 boxer-puncher scored an eight-round TKO of former WBO beltholder Lamon Brewster last January. The majority of the 27-year-old prospect's 15 opponents had winning records and more pro experience.

Helenius, who is known as "The Nordic Nightmare," will likely break into THE RING's heavyweight ratings soon, if not next week.

In the co-featured bout to Helenius-Peter, THE RING's No. 2-rated cruiserweight Marco Huck defended his WBO title with a unanimous decision over Ran Nakash.

Huck (32-1, 23 KOs), a 26-year-old Germany-based Serbian who made his sixth defense of the WBO belt, won by scores of 118-110 (twice) and 116-112.

Nakash (25-1, 18 KOs), a 32-year-old standout from Israel who took the bout on late notice, suffered the first defeat of his five-year pro career.
