Tarver to face Green in July 20 cruiserweight bout
Former light heavyweight champ Antonio Tarver and cruiserweight contender Danny Green will meet in a 12-round cruiserweight bout on July 20 in Sydney, Australia.
Former RING light heavyweight champ Antonio Tarver will take on former 175-pound beltholder Danny Green in a 12-round cruiserweight bout on July 20 at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia, according to a recent press release.
Green (31-3, 27 knockouts), a native of Perth, Australia, has won 10 in a row since his last loss, a 12-round decision to countryman Anthony Mundine in a super middleweight bout in 2006. The 38-year-old veteran's win streak includes a decision over Stipe Drews for the WBA light heavyweight title in 2007. The rugged pressure fighter retired for two years following that victory but resumed his career in 2009 as a cruiserweight, where he scored a first-round KO of Roy Jones in December of that year.
Green, who is rated No. 6 at cruiserweight by THE RING, followed up the Jones victory with stoppages of Manny Siaca and Paul Briggs and 12-round decision over previously unbeaten (24-0-1) B.J. Flores.
Tarver (28-6, 19 KOs), the first fighter to knockout Jones, back in 2005, lost four of his next 10 bouts following that signature victory, but his losses were decisions to Glen Johnson, Bernard Hopkins and back-to-back bouts to Chad Dawson.
The 42-year-old veteran's last fight was at heavyweight, where he won a unanimous 10-round decision over Nagy Aguilera last October.
The fight with Green will be Tarver's first at cruiserweight.
