Huerta returns against undefeated Martin on May 20
Junior featherweight prospects Charles Huerta and Chris Martin will headline the May 20 edition of Solo Boxeo from Santa Ana, Calif. Huerta is coming off a loss. Martin is undefeated.
Junior featherweight prospect Charles Huerta will make his second consecutive Solo Boxeo appearance against an unbeaten opponent when he faces Chris Martin in the Telefutura-televised main event on May 20 in Santa Ana, Calif.
Huerta (16-2, 9 knockouts), of Paramount, Calif., faced Raul Hirales Jr. (12-0-1) on Solo Boxeo in January and lost an eight-round split decision to the unbeaten Mexican prospect, who outworked him in a good fight.
Huerta had won five in a row after suffering a shocking first-round KO to unbeaten Derrick Wilson in June of 2009. The 24-year-old boxer-puncher's loss to Hirales put his "prospect status" in question in the eyes of many fans and boxing writers, which is why the fight with Martin is such a risky choice.
Huerta will no longer be considered a prospect if loses his second consecutive fight, which is a possibility.
Martin (21-0-2, 6 KOs), a crafty technician from San Diego, has already proven his ability to neutralize the power and aggression of a feared puncher when he out-boxed undefeated Chris Avalos (16-0) over 10 rounds last August.
The 24-year-old boxer also owns wins over then-undefeated prospect Eduardo Arcos (15-0) and veteran Jose Luis Araiza (29-2), both of whom were known for their heavy hands.
Undefeated featherweight prospect Ronny Rios (13-0, 6 KOs), of Santa Ana, Calif., will fight in the co-featured bout of the Solo Boxeo show against an opponent to be announced.
