Molina stops Conyers in seven on FNF
Junior middleweight fringe contender Carlos Molina stopped Allen Conyers in the seventh round of their scheduled 10-round Friday Night Fights main event from Las Vegas on Friday.
Apart from a flash knockdown in the fourth round of their Friday Night Fights main event, junior middleweight fringe contender Carlos Molina controlled Allen Conyers en route to a dominating seventh-round stoppage at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nev., on Friday.
Molina (18-4-2, 6 knockouts), who held undefeated prospect Erislandy Lara to a 10-round round draw last month, ended the fight with Conyers (12-5, 9 KOs) by wobbling the hard-punching spoiler with a right cross that prompted referee Tony Weeks to wave the bout off in order to spare the 35-year-old slugger more punishment.
Conyers was coming off an upset decision over previously unbeaten James de la Rosa in January. The Molina-Conyers fight was a late replacement fight for the Lamont Peterson-Victor Cayo main event that was canceled when Cayo had to pullout due to an injury.
In the co-featured bout of the ESPN2 broadcast, lightweight prospect Hylon Williams Jr. (14-0, 3 KOs) out-boxed and out-worked Marcos Herrera (6-5-1, 2 KOs) to a unanimous eight-round decision by scores of 79-73 (twice) and 77-75.
