A stage musical with a boxing theme? “Cutman,” a musical that runs through June 5 at the Goodspeed Musicals theater in East Haddam, Conn., is just that. The play is about a Jewish boxer who dreams of being a world champion. However, when his title shot falls on the eve of Yom Kippur, he must choose between his passion and his faith. The high-energy score spans the spectrum of contemporary music, from rock to pop to hip-hop to R&B.
