|
Los Angeles-area bantamweight prospect Leo Santa Cruz stopped 39-year-old veteran Jose Lopez of Puerto Rico in the fifth round of a scheduled eight-round bout Friday in Indio, Calif., on Telefutura. Santa Cruz (16-0-1, 8 knockouts) put Lopez (39-10-2, x KOs) down and hurt him in the fifth, at which point the fight was stopped. Lopez, who held a junior bantamweight title in 2009, has now lost three consecutive fights. Also, junior welterweight prospect Luis Ramos (19-0, 8 KOs) of Santa Ana, Calif., defeated veteran Francisco Lorenzo (36-10, 16 KOs) of Irvington, N.J., by a unanimous decision in an eight-round bout. The scores were 79-73, 77-75 and 77-75. Lorenzo, also 39, lost a unanimous decision to Erik Morales in December.
