By Lem Satterfield  Unbeaten prospect Gary Russell Jr. might be willing to negotiate a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions, according to his father and trainer, Gary Russell Sr.

Although unbeaten featherweight Gary Russell Jr. has not "committed to signing a promotional contract" with Golden Boy Promotions, the fighter might be willing to negotiate one, his father and trainer, Gary Russell Sr., told RingTV.com.

Russell Jr. (16-0, 10 knockouts) faces Eric Estrada on the Amir Khan-Zab Judah undercard Saturday in Las Vegas on HBO, which Golden Boy is promoting.

Russell Jr. fought on a Golden Boy card June 17, on which he stopped Antonio Meza (24-10-1, 16 KOs) of Mexico in the fourth round.

But Gary Russell Sr. said his son is not officially signed with the promotional company. Gary Jr. is advised by Al Haymon, who has a relationship with Golden Boy Promotions, said his father.

"We have not signed with Golden Boy. We deal with Al Haymon, and Golden Boy is who he's working with currently on our behalf. So if he puts us on the Golden Boy card, then we fight on it," said Gary Russell Sr. "We haven't committed to signing a promotional contract with anyone.

“It's something that would be up for negotiations, but, once again, we would pretty much go through Al to find out what the best move is. But by staying the way that it is, you definitely cut out the middle man."

Estrada, 23, has won nine of 10 bouts with three knockouts. He was stopped in the sixth round by Luis Cruz in June of last year.

Estrada has been campaigning most recently as a super featherweight, having rebounded from the loss to Cruz with a six round unanimous decision over James Lester in March.

Russell Jr. is from Capitol Heights, Md.
