Arum reflects on Pavlik's devastating decision
Promoter Bob Arum says he believes that Kelly Pavlik is sorry for making a decision to pull out of Saturday's fight with Darryl Cunningham over a disagreement about his purse.
When Kelly Pavlik pulled out of Saturday night's scheduled Showtime-televised bout with Darryl Cunningham on Tuesday, the former middleweight champ angered a network that had to cancel the card for his disappointed hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, and frustrated his promoter, Bob Arum.
Pavlik's actions were the result of his being upset with the the $50,000 he was to be paid for facing Cunningham, as well as the $1.35 million minimum he was to receive from Top Rank for a November bout against IBF super middleweight beltholder Lucian Bute.
Pavlik had heard that Denmark's ex-titleholder Mikkel Kessler had turned down a larger amount for a match up with Bute.
On Thursday, RingTV.com caught up with Arum for his reactions to Pavlik's move.
