Burns-Broner in the works for Nov. 5 on HBO

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer will meet with promoter Frank Warren in London on Monday to discuss a possible fight between WBO junior lightweight titleholder Ricky Burns of Scotland and unbeaten mandatory challenger Adrien Broner of Cincinnati on HBO. The fight probably would take place on Nov. 5, said Schaefer. "I'm in London, and I'm going to be meeting with him tomorrow afternoon," Schaefer said on Sunday. "We will discuss a deal structure to bring the fight to the United States. I am looking for Nov. 5. That's the target date for the fight." The 22-year-old Broner (21-0, 17 knockouts) is coming off consecutive HBO appearances in which he outpointed former titleholder Daniel Ponce de Leon in March and scored a first-round knockout of Jason Litzau in June. Burns (39-2, 9 KOs) has won 17 consecutive fights since losing a decision to Carl Johanneson in 2007. The 28-year-old from Coatbridge has made three title defenses since rising from a first-round knockdown to beat Roman Martinez and claim the vacant belt in September. That stretch includes consecutive knockouts over Joseph Laryea and Nicky Cook, respectively, in the seventh and first rounds.
