altRichard Schaefer on Alfredo Angulo-James Kirkland: "Based on the conversations, it looks like the fight is done."

An HBO-televised junior middleweight clash of hard-hitting fighters Alfredo Angulo and southpaw James Kirkland is likely for Nov. 5 in Cancun, Mex., Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told RingTV.com.

The 29-year-old Angulo (20-1, 17 KOs) and the 27-year-old Kirkland (29-1, 26 KOs) are each handled by Golden Boy Promotions.

"Kirkland-Angulo, it looks good. We have made our offers to the fight camps and we're waiting to hear back, but based on the conversations, it looks like the fight is done," said Schaefer.

"We are currently working on the opening bout. It would be a double-header, and we're working on two or three different scenarios."

COULD JORGE LINARES-ANTONIO DEMARCO STEAL THE SHOW?

Former WBC featherweight and WBA junior lightweight beltholder Jorge Linares (31-1, 20 KOs) has a four-bout winning streak and will be after his third consecutive knockout victory when he meets southpaw Antonio DeMarco (25-2-1, 18 knockouts), a winner of two straight, in a clash for the WBC's lightweight belt on Oct. 15 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Linares-DeMarco is on the undercard to the main event featuring 46-year-old RING and WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KOs), holder of a record 20 title defenses as undisputed middleweight champion, against southpaw Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KOs) on HBO Pay Per View.

In May, Hopkins defeated Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KOs) to become the eldest man to win a major title belt.

The card will also feature the first fight under Golden Boy Promotions for southpaw junior middleweight Luis Collazo (31-4, 16 KOs), who will pursue his third straight knockout against an opponent to be determined.

"Roberto Diaz is working on finalizing his opponent, but I've spoken to [Golden Boy] match maker Eric Gomez, and Collazo is definitely on the card," said Schaefer.

"I will be talking to HBO to see if we can do a one hour preview that would allow Collazo's fight to be shown prior to the Pay Per View going live."

ADRIEN BRONER SEARCHES FOR TITLE RIVAL

Schaefer said an anticipated junior lightweight clash of unbeatens between Adrien Broner and Eloy Perez for the vacant WBO belt vacated by Ricky Burns will not happen.

"Perez is not taking the fight, so we're working on some other names with the WBO," said Schaefer, hoping to land the bout on Nov. 26. "Eric [Gomez] has made some progress, and we should have some news there within the next week."

Burns was riding a 17-fight winning streak and was slated to face Broner on on Nov. 26 on HBO, but was replaced by Perez after citing an inability to make the division's 130-pound  limit as his reason for moving up.

The 22-year-old Broner (21-0, 17 knockouts) was the mandatory challenger to the 28-year-old Burns (39-2, 9 KOs) of Scotland, who was to make his third defense in Broner's home town of Cincinnati's U.S. Bank Arena.

The WBO's next available opponent was the 24-year-old Perez (22-0-2, 6 KOs), who is coming off a second-round stoppage of Daniel Jimenez (20-4-1, 12 KOs).

Broner is coming off consecutive HBO appearances in which he out-pointed former titleholder Daniel Ponce de Leon in March and scored a first-round knockout of Jason Litzau in June.
