Undefeated British welterweight Kell Brook continued his rise up the world ladder by stopping durable Polish veteran Rafal Jackiewicz in the sixth round of a one-sided WBA title eliminator in Sheffield, England, Saturday. Local favorite Brook was in complete control from the first bell at the Ponds Forge Arena, Yorkshire, as he served further notice of his undoubted potential with an eye-catching display against Jackiewicz (38-10-1, 19 knockouts). Former European beltholder Jackiewicz, 34, had never been down in a career spanning more than a decade. But he simply had no answer to Brook’s relentless, classy attacks and with less than a minute of the sixth remaining referee Howard Foster called a halt to the contest. The latest win for 25-year-old contender Brook (25-0, 17 KOs) sees him retain his WBA inter-continental belt - and move a step nearer a future title shot. "I was just enjoying myself out there - I didn't really get out of second gear," Brook said. "The first three rounds I was in first gear. I had taken him apart with the jab and I was just about to step it up and then the ref stopped it." |
