LOS ANGELES -- Chad Dawson won THE RING and WBC light heavyweight titles when champion Bernard Hopkins injured his left shoulder and was unable to continue 2:48 into the second round Saturday in Los Angeles.

The end came when Hopkins, 46, missed a right and more or less landed on top of Dawson, who used his shoulder to push him off. Hopkins landed on his left side, which apparently injured his shoulder.

Since Dawson's actions were not ruled illegal and Hopkins apparently couldn't fight, Dawson was declared a TKO winner.

Hopkins (52-6-2, 32 knockouts) said he told referee Pat Russell that he would fight with one arm but Russell stopped the fight anyway. Dawson (31-1, 18 KOs) said Hopkins was faking because he knew he was going to lose.

A full report will follow shortly.
