Trout to defend belt against LoPorto on Nov. 11
Austin Trout will defend his WBA belt in front of a hometown crowd against Frank LoPorto Nov. 11 on Showtime.
WBA "regular" junior middleweight titleholder Austin Trout will defend his belt against Frank LoPorto of Australia in a Showtime-televised bout from Cohen Stadium in his hometown of El Paso, Tex., Trout told RingTV.com.
The 26-year-old Trout (23-0, 13 KOs) earned the crown with a unanimous decision over Rigoberto Alvarez, the older brother of WBC counterpart Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, in February.
That's official. This is a great opportunity, yes sir," said Trout, who is coming off a unanimous decision over David Lopez in June. "I'm happy. I've been waiting to get this kind of exposure."
A southpaw, Trout desires bouts opposite fighters such as Saul Alvarez, and has been mentioned as a potential opponent for southpaw WBO counterpart Sergei Dzinziruk.
"This is not a name fighter like the guys I want to face, but beggars can't be choosers," said Trout. "And those other name fighters are getting in there with me, so I will simply take things as they come."
Trout has served as a sparring partner for southpaw RING titleholder Sergio Martinez during his preparation for left-handed fighters such as Dzinziruk and three-time, two-division titleholder Paul Williams.
