Koncz, Roach, Arum: Mayweather-Pacquiao won't happen

First the adviser of THE RING's No. 1-rated pound-for-pound Manny Pacquiao, Michael Koncz, said it during an exclusive Q&A with RingTV.com.

Then the chief cornerman of Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs), five-time Trainer of the Year, Freddie Roach, made the same assertion during another exclusive interview.

Most recently, however, it was Top Rank Inc. CEO, Bob Arum , himself, who made the argument that a clash between Pacquiao and unbeaten WBC welterweight titleholder and the magazine's No. 2-rated pound-for-pound Floyd Mayweather Jr.(46-0, 26 KOs) will never come to fruition.

"That fight will never, ever happen. Ever, ever happen because of Mayweather. When Mayweather talks about how he hates Top Rank he's talking bulls---. What Mayweather hates is Manny's right hand. Mayweather has no chin and Manny will knock him out. Pacquiao and Mayweather is a three or four-round fight. Period," Arum was quoted by ESPNLosAngeles.com.

"And who knows that best? Mayweather. The one thing Mayweather has had throughout his career is he knows boxing. He understands boxing and Mayweather cannot compete with Manny. It's the right hand of Manny that is preventing that fight from happening. If Manny agreed just to jab with the right hand the fight would be made in 30 seconds."

Arum made his comments during Wednesday's media day at the Wild Card Boxing Club owned by Roach, where Pacquiao is preparing for the HBO Pay Per View televised defense of his  WBO welterweight belt opposite RING and WBO/WBA lightweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KOs) on Nov. 12.

Pacquiao has battled Marquez through a draw and a split-decision in May of 2004 and March of 2008 when they competed first for Marquez's WBA and IBF featherweight titles and then his WBC junior lightweight belt.

"Once Manny demonstrated that fearsome right hand there was no chance ever that the fight would happen," said Arum. "None. Don't kid yourself. I know Mayweather, everything else is bulls---."

Negotiations for a bout between Pacquiao, handled by Top Rank Inc., and Mayweather, handled by Golden Boy Promotions, have twice failed over the issue of drug testing. 

During an interview with the The Los Angeles Times, however, Pacquiao seemed hopeful if not also doubtful that he would face Mayweather.

"Whoever I have to fight the rest of my career, I'm happy and satisfied with what I've done. I don't need somebody else to be satisfied with what I've done," said Pacquiao.

"I don't need to be looking for, or chasing, a fight. I want the fight, but I cannot force him to take it. He has to show  he wants to fight me."
