THE RING tribute to Joe Frazier - Part four

altRingTV.com's ongoing tribute to Joe Frazier reprints key articles from THE RING archives, chronicling his rise from unlikely Olympic gold medalist to top contender to the undisputed heavyweight championship.

Folloiwing Joe Frazier's impressive fourth-round stoppage of George Chuvalo at Madison Square Garden in July of 1967 -- a victory that vaulted the undefeated (17-0, 15 knockouts) Philadelphia slugger to THE RING's No. 1-rated heavyweight -- fight scribe Daniel Day further examined the brutal TKO of the rugged Canadian contender and surmised that the storied New York City arena (which had entered a promotional deal with Frazier) may have hooked up with the next heavywieght champion, a crowd-pleasing puncher in the mold of Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano.
