RING editor and founder Nat Fleischer recounted Joe Frazier's brutal fifth-round knockout of Jimmy Ellis in the cover story to the May 1970 issue. The victory, which took place at Madison Square Garden in February of 1970, earned Frazier the undisputed heavywieght title. However, Frazier wouldn't get a shot at universal recognition as the champ until he faced the soon-to-be unexiled Muhammad Ali.
