Casamayor tests positive for marijuana after loss to Bradley

Former four-time titleholder Joel Casamayor has tested positive for marjiuana in the aftermath of Saturday night's eighth-round knockout loss to Tim Bradley in Las Vegas, according to Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer.

Pending a hearing before the commission in either December or January, Casamayor can now be fined up to the full amount of his $100,000 purse, suspended for up to a year and have his license to fight in Nevada revoked, Kizer said.

"We did get Casamayor's drug and stimulants test back, and it came back positive for marijuana. That was his post-fight test. We got that back on Wednesday, and I called Luis Decubas Jr., Casamayor's manager, and let him know about it, and I've also sent a letter out to Casamayor this morning informing him in writing as well," said Kizer.

"So the next step is that the attorney general's office will write up a complaint against Mr. Casamayor. Again, right now, these are just allegations. He will be served with that complaint and he will have time to respond to it, and then we will have a hearing on it in Las Vegas sometime in December or January."

A 40-year-old former Olympic gold medalist and four-time titleholder, Casamayor (38-6-1, 22 KOs) was stopped for only the second time in his career by the 28-year-old Bradley (28-0, 12 KOs) in a clash that took place on the undercard of an HBO Pay Per View televised main event featuring a controversial majority decision victory by RING No. 1-rated pound-for-pound Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs) over RING No. 5-rated pound-for-pound Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39 KOs) in defense of Pacquiao's WBO belt.

Kizer said that the commission holds back "10 percent of the fighters' purse or $25,000, whichever is less," before every fight, meaning the commission presently has $10,000 of the $100,000 that Camayor was contracted to pocket for his bout against Bradley.

"Casamayor got paid the rest of his money on fight night, but the commission can fine him $10,000, or more or less than that. We could suspend him as well, and usually, for marijuana, it's for six months," said Kizer.

"If they find him in violation, they could fine him the rest of the $100,000 or suspend him up to a year, or they could revoke his license. It's on a case-by-case basis. But right now, these are just allegations."
