Super middleweight contender George Groves will not defend his Commonwealth and British titles on Dec. 9 in Liverpool, England, as planned, due to a hand injury suffered in training.
Undefeated super middleweight contender George Groves will not fight again this year after sustaining a hand injury in training.
Commonwealth and British holder Groves (14-0, 11 knockouts) had planned to make his second defense in a month on December 9 at Liverpool Echo Arena, England, on a bill also featuring European and WBO intercontinental champion James DeGale (11-1 8 KOs) against Spaniard Jose Maria Guerrero (29-2-1,11 KOs).
"I'm really gutted as I was coming along nicely in training. The injury is a setback as I wanted to end the year with four good wins, said the 23-year-old from Hammersmith, west London. "I'm sorry that my fans won't be able to see me in action, but I'll be back early next year and ready to kick off 2012 with a bang as I continue towards further titles."
