Attorneys for boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. completed the second part of a plea deal Friday that let him pay a $1,000 fine and avoid trial and jail time for a scuffle with a homeowner association security guard last November, according to The Associated Press. Mayweather did not appear in person before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Janiece Marshall while his lawyer, Karen Winckler, entered a plea of no contest to misdemeanor battery and said the fine had been paid, as reported by the AP. The plea acknowledged allegations that Mayweather poked the 21-year-old guard in the face several times with his finger during their argument in front of Mayweather’s million-dollar-plus home in an exclusive gated community several miles south of the Las Vegas Strip, according to the AP. Mayweather, who turns 35 in February, was sentenced to 90 days in jail starting on January 6 as a result of a Dec. 21 guilty plea to a charge of misdemeanor battery domestic violence and no contest on two counts of harassment. As a result of the previous plea, Mayweather was also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine, to complete 100 hours of community service and to undergo 12 months of treatment in a domestic violence program. After scoring the fourth-round knockout of Victor Ortiz in September that earned him the WBC's welterweight title belt, Mayweather (42-0, 26 knockouts), the RING No. 2-ranked pound-for-pound fighter, had targeted a May 5 return to the ring at the MGM Grand against an opponent to be determined, potentially RING No. 1-rated pound-for-pound WBO welterweight beltholder Manny Pacquiao. But given the extent of Mayweather's sentence, there is a significant question as to whether or not Mayweather will even be licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commision's five-member committee, let alone, if he will even have time enough to begin training for a fight on that date.
