Peterson has 10 days to appeal rematch mandate

altLamont Peterson has 10 days to appeal the WBA's order for an immediate rematch with Amir Khan.

The WBA has granted Lamont Peterson 10 days to appeal the organization's mandate, handed down yesterday, for an immediate rematch with Amir Khan, who lost his IBF/WBA junior welterweight titles to Peterson by split-decision last month.

The return bout was ordered following a formal appeal from Golden Boy Promotions on behalf of Khan, who also looks forward to a Jan. 18 hearing for a similar request filed with the IBF to overturn Peterson's victory or else to order an immediate rematch, based on the belief that the fight was poorly officiated and that there were scorecard descrepancies.

Some of the controversy involved IBF affiliate Mustafa Ameen, whose ringside behavior during the Dec. 10 bout was caught on video and seemed to include him picking up a yellow scoring slip near WBA ringside scoring official Michael Welsh.

Ameen will address his actions at the IBF hearing, which will also be attended by officials representing Khan and Golden Boy.
