Former two-time welterweight titleholder Paul Williams shutout Nobuhiro Ishida over 12 rounds in the junior middleweight main event of a Showtime-televised card on Saturday in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Williams (42-1, 27 knockouts), who won by unanimous scores of 120-108, outworked and out-landed the game Japanese veteran in every round, especially with power punches, of which he connected 225 of 724 thrown, according to punch stats.

Ishida (24-7-2, 9 KOs) was game and managed to land his share of punches, but he lacked the power and physical strength to hurt or move Williams, who was coming off a controversial decision over Erislandy Lara last July.

“I’m pleased,” Williams said of the victory. “I tried not to get hit too much, but when you in that ring you go with what you know.

“I take my hat off to Ishida. He’s a tough guy. I just outworked him.”

Williams said he would like to next face RING middleweight champ Sergio Martinez, who he has split two fights with, or young Mexican stars Saul Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
