Middleweight beltholder Peter Quillin could soon defend his WBO title against promotional stablemate Danny Jacobs.
It's official: Alexander signs with Haymon
Devon Alexander has joined advisor Al Haymon's star-studded list that includes Floyd Mayweather, Andre Berto, Adrien Broner, Paul Williams, Gary Russell Jr., Seth Mitchell and Chris Arreola.
Separate sources had informed RingTV.com of the deal being "in talks, if not, close to being done," or, "just about done." Meanwhile, FightHype.com, first reported that Alexander had inked the deal.
Cunningham confirmed that his fighter has signed with Haymon.
"Team Alexander and Al Haymon have joined forces," wrote Cunningham in an e-mail to RingTV.com. "It's official."
Haymon also signed WBA junior middleweight titleholder, Austin Trout, "a few days ago," according to a source.
Alexander and Trout join Floyd Mayweather Jr., Adrien Broner, Andre Berto, Seth Mitchell, Paul Williams, Chris Arreola, Gary Russell Jr., Peter Quillin, Danny Garcia, and Antonio Tarver, among others, who are with Haymon.
Alexander (23-1, 13 KOs) is slated to return to the ring in a Showtime-televised bout on Aug. 18 against an opponent to be determined, as earlier reported by RingTV.com.
A southpaw, Alexander is coming off of a one-sided, unanimous decision over Marcos Maidana (31-3, 28 KOs) during his welterweight debut on Feb. 25 before a partisan crowd at the Scottrade Center in his native St. Louis, Mo.
In victory, Alexander rebounded from a series of lackluster performances, having lost his WBC junior welterweight belt following an 11th-round technical decision loss to unbeaten Tim Bradley in January of last year, and escaped with a 10-round decision win over Lucas Matthysse in June.
Prior to facing Bradley, Alexander won a disputed decision over former titleholder Andriy Kotelnik in August of 2009, and blamed extreme weight loss for the efforts against Kotelnik, Bradley and Matthysse.
