Three-division champ Juan Manuel Marquez won a major interim belt in a fourth weight class by dominating capable Sergei Fedchenko to a unanimous decision in his native Mexico City on Saturday.

Marquez (54-6-1, 39 knockouts), who has earned major titles at featherweight, junior lightweight and lightweight, beat Fedchenko by scores of 119-109 and 118-110 (twice) to win the interim WBO junior welterweight title the Ukrainian held.

Marquez, and a legion of fans, thought he won the WBO welterweight title in his last bout, his third match with Manny Pacquiao last November, but his arch rival won a controversial majority decision. The 38-year-old veteran bounced back well from that disappointing outcome with a solid but not spectacular performance against Fedchenko, a tall and rangy 31-year-old boxer with good skills.

Marquez, the more aggressive and active of the two technicians, scored with his vaunted left uppercut, hook - to the body and head - and right crosses. Fedchnkeo (30-2, 13 KOs) landed his share of jabs and straight rights but he couldn't keep the "old man" at bay.

Marquez pressed a fading Fedchenko in the late rounds and staggered the game Ukrainian in the 12th.
