Bob Arum said Julio Cesar Chavez could fight Brian Vera next, and eventually, Andre Ward.
Bute-Froch to air live on Sky Sports
IBF super middleweight beltholder Lucian Bute's title defense against Carl Froch in the challenger's hometown of Nottingham, England, will air live on Sky Sports on May 26.
The fight was made after criticism was leveled at Bute following the Super Six tournament, with champion Andre Ward dismissing Bute's previous matchups as "C-level competition" and Froch insinuating that Bute always fights in Canada because of sympathetic officials.
Bute, who was born in Romania but recently became a citizen of Canada, surprised everyone by agreeing to stage the fight on Froch's home turf, in Nottingham, England, saying that the bout had become "personal."
"I’m delighted for fight fans that this blockbusting night for British boxing will be broadcast by Sky Sports," said Eddie Hearn, group managing director of Matchroom Sport, Ltd, which handles Froch.
"The fight will be aired live in over 20 countries and is one of the most anticipated match-ups of the year, finishing off a stunning month of boxing action on Sky and continues Matchroom Sport’s big fight strategy for the 2012 and beyond."
Bute (30-0, 24 knockouts) will make the 10th defense of his crown from Capital FM Arena against Froch (28-2, 20 KOs).
"Froch vs. Bute live from the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham in front of Carl’s hometown fans promises to be one of the fights of the year," said Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports. "And it’s part of a great month of boxing on Sky Sports that includes Amir Khan’s rematch with Lamont Peterson."
On the Bute-Froch undercard, unbeaten super bantamweight Carl Frampton (13-0 9 KOs), of Belfast, Northern Ireland, meets an opponent to be determined, junior middleweight Erick "The Eagle" Ochieng (9-1, 3 KOs), of London, takes on Nottingham’s AA Lowe (10-6-1, 2 KOs), and Canadian junior welterweight Pier Olivier Cote (18-0, 12 Kos) makes his United Kingdom debut.
Bute-Froch will be aired in America on EPIX, a multiplatform premium entertainment service that will also stream the fight live on EpixHD.com as part of a special free trial offer for boxing fans, and also present the closed-captioned simulcast of Bute-Froch on the jumbotron in Times Square in New York City between 44th and 45th streets.
