Undefeated middleweight contender Dmitry Pirog defended his WBO title with a one-sided unanimous decision over Japanese fringe contender Nobuhiro Ishida in Moscow, Russia, on Tuesday. Pirog (20-0, 15 knockouts), who won by scores of 120-108, 119-109, and 118-111, landed the harder punches during the busy fight, which featured many exchanges between the two tall and rangy middleweights. The 31-year-old Russian boxer-puncher, who is rated No. 5 among middleweights by THE RING, made the third defense of the vacant WBO belt he won by knocking out Danny Jaccobs in July of 2010. Ishida (24-8-2, 9 KOs), a 36-year-old veteran who trains in the U.S., is best known for his Upset of the Year first -round TKO of James Kirkland last April and a one-sided 12-round loss to Paul Williams in February. |
