Undefeated welterweight prospect Jessie Vargas scored a one-sided unanimous decision over veteran Steven Forbes over 10 pedestrian rounds on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather-Miguel Cotto fight in Las Vegas on Saturday. Vargas (19-0, 9 knockouts), of Las Vegas, who controlled the distance and tempo of the uneventful fight with his jab and lateral movement, won by scores of 100-90, 98-92 and 97-93. Forbes (35-11, 11 KOs), of Las Vegas by way of Portland, Ore., fought most of the bout with the intensity and pacing of a sparring partner, but the 35-year-old former 130-pound beltholder closed the bout by taking the fight to the 22-year-old up-and-comer.
