RingTV.com, Rosenthal, Groves take top honors in BWAA writing contest

Congratulations to RingTV's Michael Rosenthal and Lee Groves for taking top honors in the 11th annual Boxing Writers Association of America's writing contest, also known as "Barnery awards" after late BWAA president Barney Nagler. Congratulations to THE RING editor Michael Rosenthal and RingTV.com staff writer Lee Groves for taking top honors in the 11th annual Boxing Writers Association of America's writing contest, also known as "Barnery awards" after late BWAA president Barney Nagler.

RingTV.com scored more points than any other boxing website or publication.

Rosenthal won a first-place Barney in the category of Event Coverage for his post-fight story on the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz welterweight title bout. Groves took first-place News Coverage honors for his tribute to Gil Glancy on RingTV.com. 

In the unofficial sweepstakes competition, with five points for a first place, four for a second, three for a third and one for an honorable mention, RINGTV.com finished ahead of the other boxing websites and publications with 13 points to 12 for Thesweetscience.com, 11 for Boxingscene.com, nine for Boxing Monthly and eight for ESPN.com.

All award winners will be recognized at the 87th annual BWAA Awards Dinner to be held June 6 at the Copacabana in New York City. The event also will honor boxers who excelled in 2011, including Andre Ward, Bernard Hopkins, and Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko. Information is available at bwaa.org.
