Bob Arum said Julio Cesar Chavez could fight Brian Vera next, and eventually, Andre Ward.
Lara returns against Hernandez
Erislandy Lara gets back in action against Freddie Hernandez on June 30.
LAS VEGAS -- Southpaw junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara will face twice-beaten Freddie Hernandez on the undercard of a Showtime-televised rematch between IBF junior middleweight titleholder Cornelius Bundrage and ex-beltholder Cory Spinks on June 30, according to Lara's manager, Luis DeCubas Jr.
Lara (16-1-1, 11 knockouts) is coming off a first-round knockout of Ronald Hearns in April. Prior to facing Hearns, Lara had not been in the ring since July of last year, when he lost a disputed majority decision to left-handed Paul Williams which many observers thought Lara had won.
Hernandez (30-2, 20 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision over former titleholder Luis Collazo in October that helped him to rebound from a first-round stoppage loss to two-time beltholder Andre Berto in November of 2010.
"We're going to stay busy and stay sharp. It's more of a stay-busy fight, so we're going to fight Freddie Hernandez on June 30 on ShoBox Special Edition," said DeCubas Jr., of a matchup that will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif.
"We're looking forward to watching Cory Spinks and K-9 Bundrage, and it looks like we may be in line to face the winner of that fight next."
